The severe dangers of texting while driving

2/1/2012 7:32:40 PM

The National Traffic Safety Board is encouraging all states to ban their residents from using portable electronic devices while driving.

So far, 35 states have banned texting while driving, according to the Governors Highway Traffic Association. 9 states ban using a cell phone at all while driving. And 30 states ban just beginning drivers from using a cell phone while driving.

The National Traffic Safety Board is much more hard on texting with a cell phone that on talking with a cell phone. A study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute shows that texting is indeed more dangerous.

It showed that texting while driving makes a crash 20 times more likely. Other actions, like dialing on a cell phone or talking on a cell phone, increased the chance of a crash but were much less dangerous in comparison to texting.
